This powerful machine takes all the hard work out of winch winding and many other applications so you can enjoy your single handed sailing.

This powerful and heavy-duty electric winching device effectively converts most sail boat winches to electric facilitating huge savings for the single handed sailing.

Powerwincher will do anything you can do with a manual winch handle, but better and faster!

Our Powerwincher, often called the “crew” as it can replace the need for extra crew which is a perfect mate for the sailor who loves single handed sailing.  The new Powerwincher SOLO attachment with remote control allows you to secure the Powerwincher in the winch to the halyard or sheet and operate hands free using the remote control handpiece.
This is especially useful for many actions such as:

  • when feeding the main into the mast to allow you to use two hands;
  • when the winch being used is more than arms distance from the job at hand;
  • hoisting the dinghy onto the deck using a halyard winch which allows you to use two hands and operate at a distance from the winch so you can secure and stabilize the dinghy;
  • setting up a tacking winch to be operated hands free from the helm.  Often a Solo Sailor can't be in two places at once.

POWERWINCHER SOLO

The simplistic controls on the Powerwincher allow the sailor to control the speed to help control the torque or to change direction for two speed winches. As the torque loads up and makes the Powerwincher harder to handle, the sailor can reduce the speed so the Powerwincher remains under control. In the event the torque is too much to handle, simply release the red button and the Powerwincher will stop. Easy for the single handed sailor.
Single handed sailors love the Powerwincher because it helps to share the load, makes sailing easy!

Frequently asked questions

  • Lets you winch from the helm—trim or hoist sails without leaving your position.
  • Great for hoisting or stowing a dinghy—use both hands to guide it while operating the winch remotely.
  • Allows hands-free hoisting of mainsail or headsail—guide the sail track with one hand, operate the winch with the remote.
  • Lightweight and portable—perfect for solo setups without compromising safety or performance.

It’s a technique where you rotate the handle like a traditional winch handle while simultaneously engaging the electric drive via the thumb button—combining speed and power.

Because they tell us so. At a recent Australian boat show, every single-handed sailor who tried the system was impressed. Many cited physical challenges or multitasking needs, and said the SOLO solved their biggest sailing problem: being in two places at once.

While it can't make you coffee, it absolutely assists in tasks where an extra set of hands is needed—like hoisting, trimming, or reefing. That’s why it’s a favorite among solo and short-handed sailors.
